Turbo Overboost error problem - help needed
Just driven down from Ullapool to Corby Northants in my 2004 2.4 JTD (20V). Every time I gave it full thottle it went into "limp home" mode. Error code 0236 - I have a fault reader with me. It used to do this once every two to three months when it was very cold, damp weather but now it seems to be happening all of the time.
I have limited tools with me but I have cleaned out the EGR valve and cleaned the overboost sensor with switch cleaner, neither which made any difference. I suspect it is a problem with the turbo vanes not moving as it works perfectly if I am in the right rev range in the right gear.
How easy is it to check if the problem is internal to the turbo or a fault / stuck solenoid? Is the system operated by vacuum as per the older jtds and if so how easy is it to check if there is a leak?
Finally is there any good diesel mechanics near Corby that would be able to help? I don't mind paying someone to work on my car but I do not want to end up with the "you need a new turbo mate" scenario.
