2.0 147 - noise - god knows I love this car, but....
Since October I have seem to have done nothing but spend money on my 147 2.0 Lusso - wheel bearings, brake hoses, handbrake cables then a cracked alloy.
Now it sounds like a like a bag of nails on (cold) start up. Now I did think this might be the variator (the car's done 84,000 miles). The timing belt / tensioner (but not the variator) were changed by the previous owner at 72,000. The noise, however, is slightly worse then the normal 'diesel' effect - It is rough, but I also get a bit of ticking and slightly squeeky belt type noise thrown in for good mesaure - it does dissapear after about 5-10 seconds though and also if you take the revs up over about 2000 rpm. The 'belt' type noise has been around on start up for a little while (month or two) so not sure how related it is? The car is fine once it has had a short run and yesterday sat for several hours and then sounded pefect on start up.
Any ideas? - would be useful to know if anyone has had somehting similar. I need to go away for Xmas and am a bit concerned that I end up on the hard shoulder of the M11!
