Re: What goes first? Pads or Disks
In the days of Asbestos derived brake pads it was true that the pads wore and the discs did not..up to a point. These days with asbestos free pads the pads are much harder with sintered metals in them, and the discs wear just as much as the pads, if not moreso.
Take a front wheel off, or at the very least look through the alloys at the disc. Has it got a big ridge at the outer edge? If it has then it is a cadidate for renewal as well as the pads, but as ever its often a matter of judgement as to precisely when they need replacing.
As I often observe, Mrs A who drives our Sportwagon most of the time, has a very light foot. At 94,000 miles we are on our second set of pads, but still have the original discs, so its how hard you use them as well that can affect disc life. She also gets front tyres to last 38,000 miles...so you see what I mean about a light foot.
