Re: Alfa 156, hydrolock
OK, I've dragged this back up because we have something else to say about this car.
If you read through you see that I said the rev counter was dead because the rear O/S light remained dimly lit and the bulb warning was permanent.
Well we replaced the rev counter with a known good one, and still we got the bulb out warning, but only when the brake pedal was pressed, now I've had this before and found the earth point corroded, but I was at the back of the car watching as chris pressed the pedal and as the warning went out when released this is not the normal symptom of a bad earth. Also I noted that the N/S was dimmer than the O/S brake light, also if the O/S was the problem (it is the ne that stays on which is the problem side btw) then it should be dimmer when actually in use. SO some quick thinking and a spare pack of bulbs that were in the car brought me to a conclusion, replace both the stop/tail light bulbs. Well would you adam and eve it? Solved, the replacement bulbs cured it, even though the originals were still working.
Now in 12 years of working this model I have NEVER seen that one, I thought I had just about seen every snag the 156 can throw up, but today I learned a new one. I hope this helps someone else out and btw the original rev counter wasn't changed in vain, see below, she has gone for a right burton.
