just had to reply to this thread.
the only car i've ever killed died in the following way;
60mph limit, round dodgy bend *not raining* flood on road that should have been closed (and later was, though locals had reported it numerous times already.) husband at wheel on leave from kosovo in winter (huge irony: left behind terrible roads, snow, UN toyota forerunner, diversive driving skills etc.!)
anyway, due to danger of attempting a 3 point turn we made the decision
to creep through at what looked like lowest point. it wasn't.
i opened my door and then closed it again as water started pouring in!
towed mazda 626 with 93k and no major mechanicals to local garage where it was later 'pronounced'.
fully comp meant that we were covered; we had legal cover but the insurance company couldn't care less how it happened.
we also got more for its insured value than we would have selling it!
quote from neighbour at the scene: "i've never seen a grown man look so sheepish."
i'm making light of this serious thread, so let me add a) it could have been dangerous, and b) my car was written off due to its age anyway.
so no hot-headed tellings off about 'doom and gloom', please!
