My 2001 156 2.0TS Veloce was driven for most of its time with us by Mrs. Beard until we bought the Giulietta, so I haven't driven it for that many miles, but with around 105,000 miles on the clock it may well be about time for attention to the brakes. But, I don't want to shell out for new pads only to find there is little, if any difference. The brakes are definitely lacking in both initial bite as well as outright retardation, so, as the intention is to keep to the standard sized discs, does anyone think there will be a noticeable difference with, for example, the aforementioned Ferodo pads? If so, is it worth while buying new discs (assuming the old ones are of a reasonable thickness) of a different make from OE; for instance, Brembo or Tarox?
For me, at the moment, braking is just not up to scratch but, in fariness, I can't remember when she (the car that is, not Mrs. Beard) had a re-line.
This is perhaps more important at the time of writing as 3 mates and myself are, tentatively, planning a trip to the north of Scotland later in 2016 and the Highlands of Scotland is not somewhere I really want to be lacking in brakes with a full load.
