Interesting to read about a varied consensus on this! A 156 does interest me, it's still a heart-stoppingly beautiful body-shell, especially with that high rear wing. I do have an Alfa 75, my third, and have always felt the brakes to be below-par, but research has steered me towards the four-pronged attack of an up-grade to grooved-discs, an appropriate upgraded pad material, braided hoses and a better fluid. I have used such packages on my old Opels, and they have always done wonders to sharpen initial bite, feel, and fade-resistance. All I have to do now is buy and fit the 75 package, which is offerred on eBay for a very decent 250 pounds.
I see that all these components are available for the 156 on there, though it looks like you may need to go to a few different suppliers to put the whole lot together.
