Computer won't keep up with Trip???

hey guys, ive jjust bought an 02 2.4 jtd 156, and its great too.

reportedly after the first cold spells of this year, the battery was nearly on its last legs, but after a charge, has continued to start and run the car ok.

this is what i'm told from the previous owner...

and that ever since this battery issue the on board computer has been significantly "behind" the odometer or trip computer???

in simple terms, if my trip on the speedo tells me i have travelled 10 miles, the on board computer only says 5, and as such the whole mpg etc is thrown out the window too.

Is it likely to have been a battery issue? and is it likely, as according to the previous owner, it is possible to now "cure" the issue with a new battery?

your input will be interesting i'm sure

thanks in anticipation

My 156 has got a similar issue, the trip computer lags the actual mileage. Can't remember exactly when it started happening but it doesn't appear to be battery related on mine.

I wonder where the trip computer is getting its distance calculation from? Gearbox sensor, sensor at the wheel? Dunno, but if I knew where the trip computer was getting its figures from thats the first place I'd look, rather than the battery. If the battery was up you'd get loads of random errors.

Re: Computer won't keep up with Trip???

hi again guys

well, apparently, when the battery was discharged, charged, and the car then started, the computer threw up loads of fault codes, but then settled as the ecu realised it was panic'ing for nothing!

just left behind this silly fault, tut!

keep it coming eh...
