First time on this forum and I thought I'd ask your advice. My car has recently come back from its 24K service. I've since notice that sometimes in the morning the car refuses to pump hot air out. The dials are on 21C and AUTO. The car used to wait until the engine was warm and then warm air started to pump out. Now the engine gets warm and still no heat. The only way I can get the damn system to pump out warm air is to turn the dial from AUTO to 4 and back to AUTO. It then seems to wake up and start doing the normal climate thing and gives me heat. Any ideas ?
The strange thing is when i'm not getting heat and I stick it from AUTO to 4 there's still no heat coming from the vents. Its almost like the car doesn't realise the engine is warm. Is there some sensor somewhere that's sticking ?
I'd appreciate some advice before I wander down to my Alfa dealer.
I know this is realy daft, but are all your vents open??
My dealer always turns all fans and A/C off, and on occasion has closed the vents. Took me ages to work out why I was suffocating! Also, is your recirculation thing off?
All vents are open. The recirculation button is off as well. This problem only seems to occur when the car is cold e.g in the morning. If I come back to the car whilst the engine is warm then the Climate does the right thing and sends nice warm air in to the cabin. Its like some sensor somewhere is lazy and only sometimes realises that the cabin is cold and that there's warm air to give.
Engine is warming up as normal. This morning I was halfway to work the temperature guage had been up to the middle and had then settled in the correct place and still no warm air. I got fed up waiting for the climate to realise and turned the dial from AUTO to 4 and back again, and lo and behold the climate then woke up and started pushing hot air out.
I guess it has something to do with the auto function. Seems like the heat sensors not resetting or so. This conclusion is mainly influenced by the fact you say that if you put the knob to 4 and back to auto again, the system seems to function normally...
With my 147 I have to say that on AUTO it takes a little longer to warm up the car then when setting the thing on manual, fan speed set on 5 bars for instant and temp on 32.5 degrees...the car warms up rather fast and after reaching a nice and comfy temp, I push the AUTO button et voila. Maybe you should try this.
one more thing - check the coolant water. If short of it add more. got a prob when (with Ford of mine) water was ran out and thus created "airholes" to system and thus didnt give any heat....and it was -20C outside...nice....
