Re: quote for new clutch
I had mine done and I was am suspicious of the service by MR CLUTCH in Nottingham. I shopped around and went for the best price, they quoted me £540 for a three part change - Concentric Slave Cylinder, Friction plate and pressure plate.
When I collected it he said that he'd have to charge what he quoted but he'd ordered the wrong kit. My model takes one that is £100 more and it has a different fluid hose. I had to return to collect it later.
After driving it home I realised that although the CSC and friction plate were clearly changed, because they worked and were smooth, the pedal was just as heavy as before though meaning that the pressure plate was the original. The springs on the pressure plate are soft when new and get harder with age. I suspect he prevented his loss by not changing it.
You don't realise how heavy the clutch is as it gradually increases. It was only after I borrowed a friends car that I realised how light it should have been.
Moral of the story - when getting a quote from a NON-dealer, make sure he quotes for the right kit, ask him to check.
