Re: ticking noise
Thank you both for the feedback.
Since the last top up of oil (200 miles ago), the engine has been silky. The dipstick reads quater inch over max now (not in my opinion dangerous to the gasket but keeping revs down anyway!). The oil was changed 3k ago and 3k before that so still fairly clean but due a change.
When the noise first appeared it sounded suspiciously like low oil level or pressure. On inspection, the dipstick read half way between max and min. I'd never let let oil level drop that far since I've had the car (only 5 months), but should still have been ok.
Could it be that the calibration of the dipstick is out?
That doesn't seem very likely to me.
I'm travelling 250 miles to Plymouth for xmas (where the cambelt was done) and I'll certainly call in at the garage that did the work.
I aim to change the oil too. I've been using Qwik Fit who recommend Magnetec 10w 40 semi for the 156 TS. Could this be too heavy a grade?
I just don't understand how a belt related issue can be masked or solved by overfilling (slightly) wth oil.
Anyway, I'll be back wih any developements!
