my156 v6

I,m baffled. Having had an idling problem with my motor for a while noe it's really getting on my nerves. I have replaced the following:
MAF (Bosch item, same number off ebay)
Oil and filter.

The car has still got erratic idle, especially when I declutch coasting upto lights.
I am at a loss as to what the switch on the clutch pedal is for. The car is not fitted with cruise control.

Last night I disconnected the MAF and went for a drive. The result was a smooth idle with no hunting or stalling, albeit with the MCSF light on.

The Maf was a brand new item of the same number bought off ebay for 50 odd quid. How can this be the cause? I did however notice that the same MAF was over a hundred quid on other sites I visited. What's the difference?
It's not only annoying it's quite dangerous and need to get this sorted quick time.

I have tried countless throttle and ECU resets but with no avail.

As a last resort I am considering AlfaDiag. I have heard a lot about it on various other posts. Could someone explain exactly what it is and how it works?
I need advice before I push my car over a cliff and do an insurance job!!!
Thanks in advance

Re: my156 v6

if you have a Euro3 engine the ecu monitors the clutch position.

a member from here fixed his cars wonky idle by replacing the clutch switch.

i think its on the 1st page tonight

Re: my156 v6

have you cleaned the butterfly valve? I had also idle problem in my previous 98 156 v6, and never got it finally fixed, i think the only real cure would have been new throttle box.....

Re: my156 v6

MAF off ebay for fifty quid is likely to be a fake one, and not work as well as a brand new Bosch. Do a search on here for ebay mafs.
