Ok I finally managed to lay my hands on a 1.9 16v JTD
Great car and good engine, but I have a query for other 1.9 drivers. What temp does your engine run at when warmed up?
When I got the car, it would never go over 60 deg and would take an age to get there. Immediately I though thermostat and changed it about a week after getting the car, but still it runs cold.
It is better, it will now get up to 80 deg, but I've never seen it hit 90 and it still takes an age to get there, after a 10 mile (25 min) drive into work it never really gets up to temp. If I give it a good boot it will get up to temp more quickly, but strangest of all is if I then slow down or get stuck in traffic the temp drops off again, my petrol would get hotter when stationary, not colder! Now I know diesels take longer to warm up, but I though they still ran at 90 like the petrols? My previous petrol 156 would quickly get up to 90 and stay there. It's not the temp sender either, because unlike the petrol stat I changed in the past, the diesel one came with a new sender.
Any ideas? I did think maybe the fan was comming on early, but I can't hear it, and since it takes sooo long to warm up I haven't been able to test it on the drive.
