Here's my issue:
A few weeks ago all of a sudden ABS and VDC warning lights came on in my car. I'd not long had a drive shaft replaced so thought maybe a wheel speed sensor had not been connected properly.
Took car to local garage and diagnostics pointed to near side sensor (not the dive shaft I had changed), but when he checked the output of the sensor it was fine.
Anyway I needed the car back so with nothing changed I drove to work today.
I drive 25 miles to work and about a third of the way in (whilst stationary in traffic) my temp gauge started to drop, but more than usual, below the 70 mark almost back to the bottom! Then as I drove off and speeded up it quite quickly rose back to nearly 90.
Now I don't want to start another long discussion on faulty Thermostats as I know for sure that this stat works fine as I only changed it about three months ago and I know that it works (goes up to just below 90 and sometimes drops back a little towards the 75 mark but not for too long). It has never done this strange dropping a long way when stationary and then very quickly climbing again when on the move.
My question is does anybody know if this is indicative of some form of electrical issue? There must be some sort of voltage regulator that accounts for variations in battery voltage when different items are switched on (e.g. lights). If this is faulty could it cause dials to vary their readings when the engine is at idle and therefore not supplying as much charge to the battery?
Is my strange gauge fluctuation indicative of an electrical problem that is also causing my ABS and VDC lights to come on? I smell a rat as it all seems a bit co-incidental.
Also worthy of note is that just before the ABS and VDC lights came on (~1 week) I had a new rear bumper fitted. They disconnected my battery to do this (I know because I had to re-enter my radio code). Somehow this also fixed my airbag light, which had been on since I bought the car about 6 months ago!
Disconnected battery, fixed air bag light, cold weather, ABS/VDC lights appear, strange temp gauge fluctuations, could they be linked?
Any ideas would be welcome.
