Thanks for the responses. I want to replace as the ball joint is worn badly(when I replaced the track rod end, the inner rod is extremely loose compared to the other side) & knocking, but the rack isn't leaking at all. There was a split in the boot which has caused the ball joint to wear, it's only the drivers side that needs replacing as that was the only one split. The reason I'm only replacing the inner track rod is that it's £38 verses a few hundred for a rack(or £200 for recon). It should be a relatively painless change if I can undo it and nothing leaks!!
The dome on the rack side of the inner track rod has two flat sides to it by the way to enable you to put a spanner on, it's not round all the way.
