156 - hopeless reliability, Sunday Times
In The Sunday Times' motoring section yesterday, was a whole page dedicated to a nice couple and their 156 Sele. That's a whole page listing all of the things that had gone wrong with it. But, guess what?...despite having had a lot of trouble with it, they said...they love it and wouldn't swap it for anything. They said they never expected it have perfect reliability anyway and when it's running, it's awesome to drive.
I can't tell you how pi55ed off i was with this story. It just perpetuates the myth that Alfas are great, but hopeless and best owned by those of a generous and forgiving nature. They seemed like old school Alfa fans with a new Alfa - why couldn't they say they love the car, but find it unforgiveable that it's always going wrong and that the dealers are pants! They had a captive audience of 2million readers...God, what an opportunitry that would have been to shake-up Alfa UK by speaking to the masses about how sloppy Alfa can be, despite its lovely cars; no, rather than giving Alfa something to think about, instead they've just compounded the problem.
