Have been losing coolant for a while now. I've recently replaced the thermostat myself.
However with the loss of the coolant and no obvious leaks, I suspected it might be the head gasket.
Last night I checked under the oil cap and found a small about of white/brown residue, leading me to believe it is the gasket after all.
Now I'm mechanically minded and have done smaller jobs in the past, but do you guys reckon I'd be able to do the head myself.
I have the elearn manual so I can see there exactly what needs to be done, but I'd rather some high level advice.
In general what do I need to take off the engine? I have to remove the cam belt, thermostat etc right?
What are the potential pitfalls?
I've heard you need to skim the head to remove rubber etc before replacement. Does this need to be done by a professional? what exactly does it involve?
