I know it's no help, but I do sympathise. I would bet every member of this website has had the same feeling at some time or other. I bought my first 145QV in 1996 and it had an oil leak. I took it straight back and the "Head of Service" explained that it was the protective wax used in transit that was dripping off. I said, no, it is an oil leak. This went on for about 10 days with me filling up with oil every day. I finally managed to bypass this guy and asked a mechanic directly to look at it. After 2 mins, this mechanic came back and just shook his head. Took two weeks to mend my brand new car. A good start to Alfa motoring!
I know your arguement about the dealer lending you a car to tempt you back for future business, but you are dealing with service, and they are not sales...and never the twain shall meet. Is the original salesman still there?, or failing that try the Dealer Principal direct. They are the ones that look like second division football managers and usually drift in at 10a.m. in a 156 with huge after market alloys.
(With apologies to any D.P.'s reading).
I just hope you get this sorted and then enjoy your car to the full.
