Not wishing to write 'War and Piece', but here's the problem:
I changed the gearbox in my selespeed about 2 months ago (got the car cheap as it needed one), and then had the gears recalibrated at Alfa. Drove it home, and had a problem with 3rd gear (after driving for about 35 minutes). The 3rd gear problem comes and goes (when going back to the car after a quick stop usually), but it will go into 5th if i push the selector once more. Last week a noticed that the dash lights, and headlights seemed to fade every minute or so (when i was ticking over at the lights). Then the car started going straight into neutral when slowing, and eventually not going into 1st. When it won't go into first the lights will dim a lot, so i noticed it was the Selespeed Pump (which after driving for about 30 minutes seem almost continually to be 'priming' the selespeed, and not getting 1st. If i switch the engine off for a minute, it's fine for another 20 minutes. The car is fine first thing in the morning. I thought it might be air in the system, as i checked the selespeed fluid last week , and it was empty - i topped it up, and bled it (couldn't find a sign of a leak anywhere from the actuator etc). I did however hear a bubbling sound when sat in my car the other week (after a drive), and i was from that side of the car - maybe it leaked out of the filler bottle?
Well the problem still persists, and is embarassing when i can't get a gear.
Could it be a dodgy selespeed pump, not being able to keep pressure?
Could it be poor quality selespeed fluid?
Battery getting old?
Any ideas - i did take it back to Alfa, and they found nothing because it was an intermittent fault. It isn't now, but i argues when they found nothing about paying £50 (so i don't really want to go back unless i really have to).
