<snip>....... Whatever you do, avoid the 8v with the 5 speed box. All 16v engines should have the 6-speed box (much better). ....As I say, avoid the 8v engine!!!<snip>
Bloody hell, sounds like scaremongering language to me
There is no reason to AVOID the 8V - it's not like it's a woosy TS or JTS which will throw a cam belt with such a hissy fit that you write off your investment and buy a mondeo
... but yes it comes with a lower power (and MPG) than the JTDm's.
1. It too can be mapped silly
2. It doesn't have an complicated dual mass flywheel to fail and cost you expensive remapped grief
3. It doesn't (seem) to have a history of waterpump failures causing cambelt and everything else in 'that' critical path failure (like the JTDm).
4. It's generally cheaper as it's been around longer - leaving you more cash for suspension a remap and consumables (tyres/clutch/bushes)
I've seen exterior facelift models with 1.9JTD 8V's (5spd)
.. I know this as i want to swap mine - for a 1.9JTDm TI
'cos it's a better car
... wanna buy an 1.9JTD 8V Sportwagon (GTA wheels), it's only been round the ring (carefully) once
