Re: is 117000 miles on a 1998 156 to old to warrent spending money to do up
Put it this way, Alfapat has spent almost a grand so far geting a V6 164 back on the road, the engine has NEW pistons, rings, liners, gasket set, big end and main shells, all belts and pulleys and clutch. To my mind the car isn't worth that much but he loves it and I can see why.. it's a Cloverleaf and rare, though it's suffered a belt failure and been in pieces since I met him it's almost finished, when done the car will be barely worth £1500 but is it worth doing, hell yeah, why scrap a perfect car because the engine cooked?
Your dilema is slightly different though, but the minor niggles you have would cost £500 to sort, but to be sure it's worth doing, get under the car and check the floor pan for rot, 156s of the era seem to be suffering from 'SUD SYNDROME' and if the floors gone then it's not worth it, but if it's fine then you have to keep it on the road.
