Interior light problem

Got a problem with the front interior light on my '98 156. It doesn't come on when the door opens (the rear one does though) but will if you switch it manually. Tried all combinations of the two switches with no luck. How do they work, can't find a switch on the door anywhere.
Any help gratefully received.

Re: Interior light problem

The door switches are part of the lock inside the door.
Good luck!!

But, if the rear lights come on when the front door opens it isn't that anyway.

Sorry to wake up an olod thread, but I'm having the same problem with the driver's door not activating the interior light on my 156 SW - all the other doors work the light fine so I assumed the door light switch but as above can't find them!

I guess then if they are part of the lock this needs to be stripped out to check / replace - just wondering if anyone's done it and whether it's a big job ie deep inside the lock or is it a relatively easy fix?

Cheers for any help in advance!

I have a similar problem, rear interior lights come on as should do when any of the doors are opened but not the front interior lights. The switch on the front lights is in the correct position and if I gently press the switch in the center it works correctly, I have removed the front light assembly which when removed does not give access to the switches as far as can see? Any advice anyone if it can be repaired or replaced?

The three position switch is accessible from the back and comes with grease on it. Blast it with carb cleaner and you should be winning.

If that fails, bend the contacts a touch. It clearly isn't making contact properly and then does when pushed.

Can't get at the switches to do any thing to them without a major dismantlement of the
light assembly bought a replacement via internet, less hassle.
