Re: My new 04 147 JTD MultiJet 16v Lusso, possible sensor?
I don't drive a diesel 147 but have had my fair share of experience in my twin spark. When the cam belt went - the belt looked intact, but the tensioner had gone, resulting in a £ 1400 bill, most of this was funded by the warranty. A later expensive bill due to a failed thermostat causing overheating & a blown head gasket also cost the best part of £ 1400 I did get over half back on the warranty. Meridien Milano in Portsmouth did those repairs. You say you live in Christchurch, I'd suggest you get it recovered to Meridien Milano in Bournemouth (if they're as good as the Portsmouth branch you'll get a good job). You might be able to haggle over the labour rate aswell - it's worth trying. Portsmouth started on £ 84 per hour & I think I got them down to about £ 70.
It may not be that bad. I recently had a starting problem caused by a faulty crankshaft sensor, that cost around £80 including another job.
