You need to set the front wheels at 0 toe, as I believe that the normal setting is a slight amount of toe out hence the wear on the inside edges, but others will know more than me.
As for tyres, if a hundred people reply to your post you'll get a hundred different recommendations, but I'm thinking of giving Uniroyal RainSport 2 a try next time. There are a few threads on tyres already, so have a search around and you'll probably find what you want to know.
