My alfa was 7 in September and covered 180,000km of happy motoring and has developed I am guessing a tappet noise (or whatever they are now called under the cams) when started cold in the morning. Cold here being around 20degrees Celsius. The noise is definitely from the tappets as they seem to run in a periodic pattern and only affects some tappets and not others.
Now, I've read many posts on this and came to the following conclusions which I'd like to share and see if im barking up the wrong tree or not
1- It is not the oil as it was changed last week, the noise went lower but I have used the same fully synthetic oil supplied by the stealer from new and changed it every 5000km from 60k onwards...tick
2- Its not the Cambelt I hope as that was changed at 170k km.. 10k before recommended by Alfa ME which is every (60k). I changed it cos i was paranoid that i was hearing a failing bearing...and it cant be the tensioner as it would have affected all tappets and not some.. tick
So my conclusion is, sticky tappets.. cant do much about them apart from a- rebuild engine $$$$$$$ or b- Engine flush.
The dealer told me the engine flush might make the noise worst!!! My trusty specialist is miles away and i cant have him around when I start in the morning.
Any advise welcomed... It's a 2.5v6 btw
