The normal thing is to do 1000 miles not taking it past 3500rpm its just a running in time ( but was never told anything when i picked mine up). Then after that time you can do what you want. Just keep an eye on the oil level as within the first 5000 miles it will use quite a bit, but this is normal for a new engine.

1)you should keep the engine running freely (do not put engine under heavy load)
2) vary engine speed and avoid driving at a constant speed(revs). If you have to travel at a constant spped then evey 10km or so back off thottle and deaccelerate to allow oil relube the engine
3)Avoid hard acceleration.

My automotive engineer friend suggests with modern high reving engines that you should also rev them out occasionally in 1st or second.(using light to throttle opening.
If their are any hotspots in the engine then the these will be able to cool down as you are only reving out engine for a short time.

If you think that running your engine to 5000 revs has done damage then me running the engine to 6000 revs in first 1000 km will be a real problem
