On the front no, they dont fit, but on the rear, yes, you need to. Andy (aicwilson) whos car it is stole my GT85 spray and cleaned them off and left a nice shine on the rubber boots.

As you can see in this pic of the front shock, there is a plastic sleeve which you slide to the bottom of the spring and this protects the plate on the shock.
