Got new car :-))))
GT Blackline JTS. I didn't think there were any left, couldn't believe it when I saw it.
We've lost our Alfa dealers in Basingstoke, Alan Gibson just do the servicing, and when I went up to Tony Purslow I found the showroom empty and a big sign up saying "Coming Soon - Lard Rover". And people wonder why Basingstoke gets a bad reputation?
Went back to Andover in a strop, into French Car dealer and got him kicked off on getting me a 407 Coupe, went home, sat down, and I just felt dirty.
Back on to interweb, AR.co.uk, dealer search, Whitequay at Reading, Meridien at Portsmouth, Meridien open Sunday and Portsmouth a good day out, so the next day off we went.
They had everything, 159s, Breras, GT's, started talking about the Cloverleaf, but then saw the GT Blackline in the corner, brand new and still unregistered. I thought they'd all gone, they said it was the last one in the country. I'd wanted one originally but wasn't ready to change before they finished it and brought out the Cloverleaf.
They took my Sportwagon as trade in and we did the finance there and then, it was approved in 10 mins, which I couldn't believe, on a Sunday, in the current economic climate. Recession, ha, what recession.
Meridien were great, very smooth deal, very good experience.
The car so far, absofragginlutely brilliant dammit.
Maybe that just happens when you change from an 80K mile car to a 20.3 mile car, but the first impression is better than I remember in the first 2 (this is my 3rd black Alfa in a row, 156s previously).
If this post was too long and boring, I'm sorry, but I'm still high and just wanted to tell someone. Thanks for listening.
I got a phone call last week asking if I still want to pursue the French Car, poor bloke, he must be wondering what he did wrong.
hasmac (still alfaowner).
