Re: whats the best 156 on a 2.5k budget
I've had my 2001 51 plate 156 2.0TS Veloce for the past 4 years and it is probably worth about 2.5k now. They are great cars as long as it has been maintained, so a FSH is a must. I would recommend this model and engine size.
Go for a Veloce, as you get the side skirts and sports suspension. I personally think the 156 looks a little bare without the skirts. Mine is in black with sports cloth seats, which I prefer to leather, and quite similar looking to the photo link by magicsy above.
Also ensure that the cambelt, idler and tensioner (and balance belt and tensioner on 2.0TS) has been changed. Alfa has reviewed its service intervals to 36,000 miles or 3 years for the cam belt, even thouth it will say 72,000 or 6 years in the service book. If it hasn't been done this will cost about £400.
I think the tax is cheaper if registered before March 2001, when they just go on engine size. After that they go on emmisions and the tax is higher. Unfortunately mine was registered in September 2001, so I miss out on the cheaper tax.
Have a look on Autotraders website, theres loads for sale.
