Re: Alfa 147 2.0 TS - Cambelt Broke, Next Steps?
My dealer alerted me to the need for the cambelt change a 36K service. I wasn't aware of all the risks, so declined. I then got worried and had it done by an independent garage. I asked if he should do the water pump too but he said it didn't need doing.
All was well until 5 months later, whilst on holiday 140 miles from home, I had a water pump failure, which threw off the new cam belt and wallop!
The RAC were very good and a local mechanic that sepcialised in rebuilds had me back on the road again within a week (fortunately in time for the trip home) after doing a top end rebuild. £1500 on top of the £250 for the original belt change.
Now I am getting edgy and am thinking of trading it in.
Trouble is, I am looking at another 147.
How could I be so stupid? Has anyone else has a bad Alfa engine failure and then gone and bought *another* one?!
