Lunched Sump

While avoiding the floods in East Devon yesterday I managed to run over something that has cracked the sump. The car is dripping away its lifeblood, leaving a nasty stain wherever it sits.

I know that the 2.4 diesel does sit fairly low in a 156 Ti and that ground clearance is pretty pants, frankly. Monza sport are talking about being able to weld the sump rather than replacing it. Given the price of a new one, I'm all in favour. But I would ask the collective if there is anything that can be done to improve ground clearance? I have heard of people replacing the plastic sump guard with a metal one just to add a bit more protection. Is there such a thing available as a smaller sump?

Re: Lunched Sump

Stiffer shock absorbers are whats needed. This prevents the 'bottoming out', which is your suspension compressing so much the sump hits the deck.

Changing your shocks for Koni FSDs or other uprated shocks will improve things no end. Stiffer springs can help but you wouldn't really want to lower the car as well, so maybe just go for the shocks.
