Re: Anyone replaced a gearbox? 156.
2 axle stands, 1 jack, good tool kit, NO ENGINE HOIST REQUIRED. The job taekes about 3 hours from scratch.
Lift and support vehicle,
Remove left front wheel and arch liner,
Support engine on jack and remove down pipe and the lower engine mount,
Remove the left hand brake calliper and support it,
Unplug the ABS sensor and pull the wire down through the bulkhead (tie some string to it to get it back up) and the pad sensor and un hook ALL LINES CONNECTING ANYTHING TO THE SHOCK,
Disconnect the upright top balljoint to the upper arm and remove the 4 bolts that mount the lower arm to the sub frame,
Yank outwards on the top of the upright, this will pull the inner CV joint out of the gearbox, then remove the upright, lower arm and driveshaft in one,
Disconnect the reverse light plug and gear change linkages and clutch slave line,
Remove the flywheel dirt guard, and the ring of bolts holding the gearbox to the engine (except the top 2),
Remove the gearbox end engine mount,
Lift the engine a little so the gearbox will miss the subframe as it slides off and remove the top 2 bolts,
Slide out the gearbox, supporting its wieght.
