Re: 147 1.6 T-spark wont run. Help!
First of all get the engine compression tested. If the cambelt has already gone and they've been replaced it could still have bent valves. You won't neccesarily hear them and the engine will start but it will not generate any power.
If the variator has gone the motor will still run, it will just sound like it has very noisy tappets and will lose a little power.
The TPS (throttle position sensor) tells the engine when the throttle is being opened and the ECU adjusts to it, these can sometimes go wonky and cause this problem. If the fault is electrical then the garage should be able to tell you what it is by connecting the OBI scanner to the connection under the driver side by the fuse box. If you belong to the AA or RAC they could come round and do it for you.
Is the 'OIL PRESSURE' light always on or only when the motor dies (which is normal)? There is a sensor in the sump with a terminal connection, Mine was loose and corroded (because it got loose) and needed a quick clean and connect to sort it out.
After the engine dies, does it start immediately or is there a delay.
At worse, a recon engine will cost you around £1500 on Ebay PX.
