147 : Huge oil use/loss !
Wonder if anyone could offer some advise on a problem I have with my 147 2.0TS - it's using/burning/leaking about a sumpful of oil every week !! This has been an ongoing problem so after three or four garages identifying the problem as a leaking rear main oil seal, I eventually took it in to have this replaced. This was done along with the sump gasket (which they said was also leaking) and a service. Checked the oil level after a week of the work and the dipstick was bone-dry !! Put about 3 litres in, and then re-checked 3 days later - bone-dry again !!
At this point took car back to the garage to look for a further oil leak, and after a thorough check (engine cover off, all coil-packs/plugs out, checking top & bottom with inspection lamp etc) no leak was found.
Although there is no sign of oil being burnt from the exhaust, even when I change down and boot it, so is it possible to be burning that amount of oil without any paricular sign of it ? Could the oil cap have a minute leak and is letting a mist of oil escape ? If anyone has any ideas on this I would really appreciate it.
