Hello and some advice
Hi Everybody. I'm new to the board, and would like to ask for some advice.
I've had my new Alfa 147 (1.6 Distinctive, 17" SuperSport Alloys, Rosso Alfa, 3dr.) for about a month, the same amount of time that I have been lurking on this board and reading up on everyone else's experience with these incredible cars. I had been car shopping for about a year - fell in love with the 147 on first sight, but it took 12 months to convince myself that I deserved it...
Anyway after about 2800km on the clock, the engine is loosening up nicely, but some other things seem to be as well. I've had just a few glitches:
1) dashboard squeaks are starting - I've got the centre console top vent 'clacking' noise that I think others have referred to, and I have a little squeak coming from somewhere around the plastic guard for the guages above the steering wheel - i've read how others are tackling it, I'll try silicone grease first and see how it goes.
2) some little noises and clunks coming from somewhere in the back, be damned if I can find them. Will try looking at the rubber stoppers for the hatch, see if it works.
3) This one I need help on: does anyone else's gear knob squeak? Mine didn't at first, but it has become quite prominent now, a sort-of leather against metal squeak, but it eminates from inside the leather knob itself when lateral pressure is applied. I can live with it if it is harmless, but is there some sort of inner 'rod within a rod' assembly that I need to be careful of? What is getting loose in there? I haven't mentioned it to the dealer because I don't know how to make myself not sound like an idiot in Italian (I'm an expat living in Italy) - if it is totally harmless.
4) My CD player seems switch to radio once in a while of its own accord. Is this the way that it 'skips' or do I have a bigger problem? Any suggestions would be most helpful...
Thanks, and I would just like to mention that this board has been a great help and reassurance to me in getting used to Alfa ownership. I love the car, but it's nice to know that others have the same problems as I do!!
