1.6TS engine - spark plugs
i have a '98 alfa 156 1.6 TwinSpark. it is currently at 60oookms.
now my problem is with my engine, which has a firing problem.. when the engine is at normal temperature, and when i try to accelerate the engine simply shakes as if one of the spark plugs does not work. also for example when in the second gear, i try to eccelerate... it first normally accelerates, then suddenly stops accelerating for a moment, then continues accelerating.
when i went to my specialist, they told me that my spark plugs were ought to be changed. this was because 2 months ago some small amount of water was entered to the place where the spark plugs are mounted (top of engine block). when i noticed that, i immediatly cleaned the water, but it seems i was a bit late.! the specialist told me that this water had caused two of the sparks to "explode"! so the plugs does not seem to work properly.
now, the quesition is:
1. is it normal for these spark plugs to simply die after only 60oookms.? because the regular changing period is 100oookms.
2. if they are ought to be changed, what alternatives do i have with new plugs? it seems the original plugs are NGK's. is there a more cheap way of finding plugs? does any other manufacturer (bosch) has products for our cars? 3. if these plugs do not live so long, what is the point of using platin plugs?
4. do you think the solution of this firing problem is with the plugs?
thanks very much!
note : the engine computer doesn't give any errors when we connect it at the specialist.
