156 Interior fan 'Low speed resistor'???

My interior fan only works on the 4th speed. Which is not too handy here in Czech, as it's already frosty in the mornings.
I have 156, 1.6TS '98 (No aircon)

Someone has tried to fix this, but I lost the three fan speeds again soon after.
I've seen the the small board that they took out to repair. It plugs somewhere up in the air box in the passenger footwell, and is held in place by two screws.

I ordered another from a car breakers who assured me it was the correct one, but it wasn't. luckily it was cheap!
I'm going to pull it out tomorrow, and see if there's any chance of a repair?

Does anyone know the type of board I'm talking about or shall I try and post some pics of it tomorrow.

The guy over here who tried to fix it, said it was a very early type, and his parts manual only gave different ones.

Any ideas
