This relates to tractors specifically but gives you an idea. If you have installed anything 'after-market' it will need an interface to communicate. Basically when you want something to work a coded signal is sent, this signal is ignored by all except the component it is meant for. If there is anything else such as a SatNav connected not part of the network it throws the system into a tizzy-fit. Did you disturb any connections when installing the battery? You might find that disconnecting the battery for 1/2 hour and then re-connecting will help. If not, one of the advantages of CanBus is that a diagnostic tool should indicate where the problem lies.

In the past, all electronic components needed to be hard-wired to the electrical system to be connected. Over time, these connectors would be susceptible to rust, vibration, or even crop buildup, pulling the components apart. With so many wires, locating the problem in the electronic wiring harnesses could be difficult when trying to repair a machine.
The CAN bus system improves the electrical system by reducing the amount of wiring in the cab by 1500 feet and decreasing the amount of relays and connections needed. CAN bus systems are made up of only four wires – input, output, power, and ground. These four main wires make up the central wiring harness, and the controllers are plugged into this harness. Each controller manages a specific functional area, such as the engine or transmission, and these controllers can communicate with each other as well as with attached implements. This increases the reliability of the electrical system and keeps you in the field instead of in the shop.
Another CAN bus advantage is it allows the technicians at the dealership to plug into the system using Service Advisor. Service Advisor is a computer program that links up to the tractor’s electrical system to read the communications between the controllers to determine where the problem is located and how it can be fixed. Error codes can also be read through the new Command Center which helps the technician find and repair the problem faster. Repair time is decreased saving you money.
Today, all electronic controllers, signals, and functions are controlled by the CAN bus system so more data can be exchanged in the same time, optimizing the tractor and implement performance.
