Hi to all,
the past 4 days i am experiancing something strange concerning the gearbox's operation .When i am in gear and bring the car to a complete stop or sudden hault the revs fall to 800 instead of proper idling. To my opinion the system isn't operating the clutch properly ,at all times though the gearbox is working fine.Very often though the revs drop a lot and the car is about to stall,it also stalled 2-3 times.Has anyone experianced this ,any verdicts please?
I noticed that when the weather changed with increased humidity.
The car has only stalled on me once in 20,000km, but a few times it has found itself in neutral when I have tried to pull away onto a roundabout after some of that typical stop-start stuff when there is a queue with a Volvo in front! It can get a bit confused if the progress is erratic. I have definitely noticed a slight strangeness in the gearchanging (clutch control not quite perfect) when driving off first thing in the morning though, especially if the air is damp. Only for the first 5 or so changes. I think this is due to the clutch plates being affected by condensation and/or temperature, which soon settles down once the engine bay has warmed up a bit and stabilised. I think exactly the same thing happens with a standard manual car, but in this case the driver subconsciously adjusts the clutch/throttle as necessary. wink
True, I've had that too lately, it's about 3 degrees here in the mornings, and quite humid, and the very first shift from 1st to 2nd it's like the clutch slips a little bit, and it rev's a couple 100rpms higher than it should... No biggi that, though... hehe... Agree on your theory, it's prob to do with dampness and or cold.
About 1 year ago (not long after the 147 came out in NZ) I got a recall notice from Alfa NZ. It was to upgrade the engine management and gearbox software. Apparantly there had been cases where the engine was stalling on coming to a halt. I had never experienced this problem in fact in 29 months and 22,000km of ownership my Selespeed engine and gearbox has been faultless (touchwood).
If you problem continues suggest to the service manager that you want the latest software update for your engine and gearbox management systems. Who knows, it may resolve the problem.
