Re: 156 2.0 TS - Fuel economy - imagined paranoia?
Right, I changed my thermostat and sort of gave my TPS a clean yesterday.
The only thermostat looked open when i took it off, as opposed to the new one which was shut. £30 though - never paid that much for a thermostat before - noone believed me till they saw the housing.
The car gets hotter alot quicker now, so hopefully that will do the trick.
I also took off the throttle body, cleaned up inside, though when I took off the TPS, i couldnt open it as it was fairly cold outside, and i didnt have anywhere to warm up the plastic. I broke 1 clip, so didnt try the rest of them. I sprayed contact cleaner inside rotating shaft, though dont think its done a great job.
Now, next jobs are changing the rad (have the new one already). Also, does anyone know where the RPM sensor is located? When moving, usually in second gear, and usually when its cold outside though it freequently does it other times as well, when I apply the throttle, the tachmetre will either jump around up and down a few times, then settle, or like this morning, it will just jump to 0 until you release the throttle. Alternatively im wondering if the TPS is at fault (as its only when you open the throttle), or whether there is a bad earth somewhere.
