I've got myself into a bit of a mess and could do with some advice! I have a GTV with a newly reconditioned engine but I lent it to a friend who unfortunately had a bit of an accident in it causing some frontal damage.
I bought another donor GTV which was supposed to have ECU problems and had been lying up for 5 years, so that I could break it for parts to fix the first one.
When I got the donor GTV back home I got it running within 10 minutes and it has only 56,000 on the clock.
The next "wise" move was to buy a 156 on the cheap with a snapped timing belt - the plan is to fix both my original GTV and the 156 with the parts from the donor GTV. My brother is going to take the 156.
Will the engine out of the donor GTV (alloy rocker cover) fit into the 156 (plastic rocker cover) if I leave all the 156 ancillaries in place? If not can I make it fit?
I've run the donor GTV engine for several hours and it's behaving itself really well so I trust it to at least some extent.
The other option is to put the head off the donor GTV engine on the 156 engine but I'm afraid there might be bottom end damage.
Any advice? (other than to get my head examined)
The donor GTV isn't going back on the road - the paint is faded and everything rubber is likely to fall apart!
