Knocking noise when driving
I have a few niggling problems with my alfa 147, but this is the one that worries me the most..... When i'm driving along, and there is any change in the road surface, i hear a knocking noise. It happens on either side, according to which wheel is having to do the work. I took it to one mechanic who told me it was the 'anti-roll linkage' or something. fitted a new one for £80 inc vat and labour. Drove out of the garage and heard the same noise. went to an alfa dealer, they told me it was the steering rack and it would cost £1300 to fix inc vat and labour. I'm no mechanic, but it doesn't seem to be the steering rack to me, and it wouldn't be the first time that the dealer has told me a whole heap of nonsense. when i have heard steering rack problems on a car before, there has been a clicking noise as the wheels is turned, my car does not do this. Another mechanic told me it was the shocks, someone else said they think it might be the wishbones, and i have seen a thread where someone mentioned that kind of noise was caused by their wishbones. Any ideas guys? i want to narrow down the problem before spending any money!!!!
