156 Stalling on idle. Suggestions?

A chap from the NIIMC is having problems with his mothers 156. Basically he has stated the following:

"156 T/spark stalling on idle (i.e. when stopping at roundabout etc.) Any ideas? Does not appear to have consistant power through the rev band."

He has disconnected the MAF which made no difference. He tried a new MAF and still no difference.

He also needs a key (only has one at the moment). Is there somewhere that can supply keys and can anyone other than a dealer re-code them?

Thanks guys.

Sounds like the idle actuator is out of sync. He could try the simple "throttle reset" but I think he may have to hook up to a diagnostic system to reset the actuator (alfadiag is fine for this). thers' a how-to on my website or you can try a search on here ... there are a lot of threads on the idle problem.

Otherwise I've heard that it could be a faulty lambda. However I had these problems with a brand new lambda sensor, but it was a NTK lambda not a Bosch. We've since found out the NTK is a different resistance and so could also be a problem.

cheers, Gary

Re: 156 Stalling on idle. Suggestions?

Depends what engine he has - the V6 has no idel actuator, but a fly by wire throttle. Either way would be worth cleaning the throttle valve, after that I'd go with lambda sensor too - had both problems with my V6 causing erratic idle and stalling.

Just noticed its a T-spark, so I think a normal cable-controlled throttle with separate idle valve?
Remember some old threads talking about a valve in breather hose getting jammed which can caused idle probs on the T-sparks, would be worth searching the old threads on "idle" or "throttle"

Sounds like a lambda issue to me.
