Before embarking on lost knuckle skin, I thought I'd check a few things. I found that a vacume hose was cracked ( thanks for losa for his detailed tread - JTD/JTDM MCSF & other problems FIX ) it was the top pipe from the vgt solenoid to the reservoir, so easily got to. I sorted this and went for a drive - not fixed! :-( power still down below 2500-3000rpm and little boost (definately more power above 3k, but still not the grunt of before)
I took the trusty laptop and measured the EGR duty cycle, Boost control solenoid valve opening, Desired boost pressure & Boost pressure to get an output and hopefully point me in the right direction. However, I dont know what values these should be showing, so am looking at data that doesnt mean much to me. Being an analyst by trade (you wouldnt believe it by this though) I thought I may be on to a winner, but allas, I still need help.
I have noticed that the boost control solenoid valve hit a flat level after 6.78 mins and didnt budge from that point for the rest of the drive, which was the lowest level recorded for the whole duration (the MCSF error came up at about this stage in the drive I think (was definately after 5 mins in)).
So, would this indicate that the boost control solenoid was the cause of the error? If so, would this alter my plan of attack? i.e. what should I be checking before other stuff?
I ran the actuator tests and all seemed OK, except the EGR solenoid vavle test didn't make much noise (tiny quiet clicks), nor did the boost control solenoid test (didn't hear a thing).
Also, am I measuring the correct things or would there be something better to check? (I'm using the free trial version of FiatECUScan as the trail of alfadiag wouldnt let me shift the code off to start a fresh.
Any help would be awesome as I'm getting to the point where I'm thinking of leaving her as she is and driving until she dies, but really don't want to as everything else is spot on (except my aircon lol) !
