Rear wheel arches

I have noticed that the lining on the inside of my 147's rear arches is a fabric type material as opposed to the plastic liners fitted to the front.

My first thought when I saw it was that it won't be long before it gets wet and starts rotting away.

Is this standard on all 147's?

I think it's syntetic. This shouldn't rot. Then again, it's an Alfa, so perhaps they use special synthetic that CAN rot

this is probably the most stupid answer you'll ever read, but...
could this have anything to do with the Bose system ? like better insulation or so....?

156 rear wheel arches are lined with what looks like black kitchen scourers - all it seems to do is hold all the mud thrown up by the wheels

I think it may be there to stop water spray flying out from the rear arches (a bit like that brush-like stuff you see adorning the rear arches of big lorries). wink
