I had the opportunity of a lifetime last year when I went to my very first Sydney Motor Show (been going since I was 10yrs old!) whith the money to buy a car. I mean... WOW, what a trip!!!
I looked at what every single dealer had to offer. I considered the Toyota Celica but it was all too plastic for my likding, the styling was also much too wedge/future like. I sat int eh Integra for a while. It was almost minimalist but also plastic and not many options. I sat in an AUDI A3 for a while, pricey for what it was and it looked like every other one on the street, the shapes gbeen the same for some time now it seems. A little boring I thought. I looked at the Peugeots. They all looked too radical to me, little, short and too chunky. I really thought long and hard about a Nissan 200sx, just based on the engine and low sports car feel.
THEN I SAW THE 147!!!!!!!
I first saw the 5 door, black. I found the handles on the rear and was so damn blown away about them, a 2 door looking 5 door!!! No longer would my friends have to squish past my seat into the back!!! My girl and I sat inside the black 5 door on the showroom. BOSE Speakers! WOW! And ****!!!!!!!!!! What the hell was this Selespeed?! Far out clutchless manual! We just sat in it for 15 minutes. Loved thelook of the cabin, it really ws love at first sight. We opened and closed doors a few times to hear the solid THUD! Nothing like a Japanese car at all. Then we saw the price. A little over our limit but DAMN ! Everything ws standard! Climate control, 9 speaker Bose, 6 airbags, ABS, Traction Control and Selespeed!!!!!!!!!!!! TOO GOOD. It killed any competition that day (Damn that little BMW was ugly and cheap). We eyed the 3 door which was on a rotating stand and instantly, very quickly I realised it looked totally different. The propotions were all funny to my eye (I am a designer!) I felt it looked as if it was cut short. Like it really should have something more at the back, long front, super squished short back. It really made my mind up for me to go for the 5 door on looks alone... but functionality a massive plus.
