Having to put up with Alfa dealers
In Ireland there are maybe 10-12 dealers but only 2 or 3 are rumoured to be any good. Most people just put up with what they get, and so the dealer does shoddy work, as he knows he can get away with it.
I thought my own dealer was one of the good ones until the other day. I dropped the car in to have my new Blaupunkt MP3 player/DAB tuner installed. For some reason they decided to remove the centre console. Possibly because I complained about creaking coming from the top of it before.
After I collected the car, I noticed that the console creaks all the time, even on smooth roads. Heck..if you touch anywhere near the clock or fuel gauge with your finger, the thing has a fit. I reckon they either broke something off the plastic, or didn't tighten it properly, but they claim there is nothing they can do about it, and the crap Irish roads are to blame.
When I explained my friend 99 156 doesn't have this problem and the noise was never as bad until they installed the player, their retort was that Alfa's are mass produced - some will be noisy, others won't and if I wanted a quiet car ,why didn't I buy an Aston Martin !! The cheek. I've bought 4 cars from them in 4 years, and this is what they come out with.
Anyway, besides lodging a complaint with Alfa and the General Manager of the dealership (letting hom know I will never buy a car from them again or get my car serviced by them), I just rang an Alfa dealer in Cork this afternoon, who is about a 1 hour drive from where I live. I didn't mention anything about the other dealer. Just the problem with the creaking console. He said the plastic should not creak and has offered to look at my car on short notice and do whatever it takes to fix it. I think I'll give them a try and kiss goodbye to the local Alfa dealer.
If I get this solved, then that's the battle against rattles and creaks won, and I can go back to enjoying my car.
Do BMW and VW drivers have this much fun with dealers I wonder.
