Test run disaster. Engine light after crash?
I took my 156 Sportwagon project up to the midlands earlier this week. It was its first major test run following a new head, cambelt, gasket, front bumper... more things than I care to remember. I taxed it, insured it and set off. First stop Loughborough. All fine there, no untoward noises, temperature perfect. Stayed the night and headed off to Warwick the next day. Two minutes on the M1 and I was at the front of a three car pile up. A BMW had catapulted a Fiat into the back of me.
It's all going through the insurance and thankfully not mine, damage looks minor but the fact the boot doesn't shut makes me think the bill for the insurance company will be in the region of a grand. The thing that is baffling me (getting around to the point of the message) is that the engine light came on post impact. Can the ECU tell it's been in a crash even if the airbags don't activate? No front end damage so can't see what could have triggered it. Anyway, it'll be on the list of things to sort out at the garage when it's collected next Thursday.
Didn't know whether to laugh or cry!
