SportWagon vs. 166, a good trade?

Hello there,
I am thinking of trading in my 2001 Sportswagon Selespeed with 29.000 km on the clock with a 99 166 Sportronic 2.5 with 52.000 kms, both cars are black, full leather etc. Do you think that would be a good trade, zero cost? I hear very good comments from 166 owners about their cars on this forum, shall I go for it?
Many thanks...

I have no opinion about the financial value but I would love to upgrade from a 2.0 TS to a V6 sporttronic

IMO even though you are stepping up from a 2.0 TS to a 2.5, the power upgrade will more than likely be cancelled by the additional weight of the 166, but if you like the look of the 166, then go for it.

I must admit that, my comments are stained with bias as I believe the 156 Sportswagon, is one of the prettiest cars in the Alfa family, including the 147.

I have also found the 166 Instrument cluster is not in keeping with the 156/147 design of Speedo and Tacho being in individual cowlings.

Best of luck on this most difficult of choices!

Luxury problem!

If you do not have 2 St. Bernard dogs, go for the 166!

Man, I would love to drive a 166 once, like to exclusivity and the very nice design. I disagree with Stef. I think the back/sides on the 166 are the prettiest around. Together with the front + interior of the 147 it would be the perfect alfa. (OK, throw in the engine of a M5 )

Go for it, get rid of your selespeed before the gearbox blows!

Seriously, unless you need the (limited) practicality of the SW then go for the 166. Sportronic is nice and smooth altough I fell the gear ratios could be better. I think there is too much of a gap between 2nd and 3rd. I thought autos would be rare in Turkey?

To be honest, I never liked the sportswagon...go for 166.

Does swapping a 01 for a 99 car factor into it at all ?

Surely the paintwork, interior trim etc.. will not be in as good a nick as your 01.

Thanks everyone for sharing your comments... It is a tough choice indeed, but seeing your opinions do help...
Well, I personally like the looks of the SportsWagon very much, have few concerns about the Selespeed function, and generally very satisfied with my car. A bit more power sure will cheer me up but going back 2 years is also a concern as you point out... But, I also like the 166 very much, think it is also a beautiful car...And seeing very positive comments from 166 owners is also very encouraging...
Rapallo, cars are rare in Turkey in terms of # cars per 100 person etc. If you happen to come around to Istanbul, you will see lots of Alfas, Porsches, Ferraris... There are 2 Maserati 3200 GTs in my neighbourhood alone...
Turks are known to be car enthusiasts...

Disagree with the point about the weight increase would remove any power gain.

My car's been heavily modified, on the way home a few months I was having some fun with a dark green metallic 166 2.5 V6, the greater torque of the engine from 30 - 70 mph gave me a good run for my money..

I think the 166 is the best looking modern Alfa saloon, easily puts the 156 in the shade..

I would want the 166... its one of the most exclusive cars in the first place..... look at its design (ignoring the front) and its the nicest looking modern alfa!!!

I also think it'll be (or should be) the most comfortable and refined!!!

Tough decision! I think the 166 is a very nice looking Alfa (except for the headlights, they are to small), very stylish and is definitely more exclusive then a Sportwagon. But the Sportwagon is very nice as well and has a bit more sporty looks. I guess it's choosing between style and sportiness. If I had to choose myself I would probably go for a Sportwagon and when I'm 40 (in a couple of years) trade it for a 166.
