I’m trying to diagnose a problem with my 03 156 SW 1.9JTD8V (85KW).
Car has an intermittent starting problem which I think (from searching here) is the crank sensor ie. It will start first time from cold. It will run as normal, however after a drive it might not start again, instead the starter will simply turn the motor over and over it won’t fire up.
There are no idiot lights on/off or out of the ordinary on the dash
The key code light goes out with the key
There are no reported errors on the info centre
Battery is brand spanking (and correct)
Issue started a few weeks ago when the car wouldn’t start and the (original and wrong!!) battery was run flat turning it over. Battery was replaced and car fired straight up.
On all three occasions this has happened, wiggling the wires/relays in front of the battery and cables under the dash near the fuses and EOBD port the car has restarted. Although this could be the car cooling down etc or anything, we need to be more systematic about this – but last week was the worst week of our life, and we’ve not been that clear headed.
My thinking is to simply replace the Crank Sensor, it’s only £20 pounds or so.
Veloces of London insist I need to plug her into the computer to calibrate the crank sensor on replacement, I’ve not read this anywhere, can anybody confirm?
Also, does anybody have any pics of the location? I read that it has a brown connector – but then everything in the dark/shade to a colour blind man looks brown.
Indeed can anybody recommend an Indie in SW London (Clapham/Putney/Wandsworth) who they’d recommend to replace this.. I really not in the right frame of mind at the moment to be climbing under the car.
